## Description

Nadine gives a fast, practical tour of Hedera and how to get building quickly—even if you’ve never touched the stack. Hedera is a Layer-1, EVM-compatible network (nearly equivalent) with native SDKs in JavaScript, Python, Java, .NET, Rust, etc., so you can interact with the ledger like a normal full-stack app or deploy Solidity contracts. She highlights production traits: ~10,000 TPS, very low, predictable fees (priced in USD cents—e.g., ~1¢ per token transfer, ~0.08¢ per HCS message), strong security (hashgraph consensus) and an independent governance council (e.g., Google, IBM). It’s also positioned as one of the greenest networks.

For onboarding, the Hedera Portal (portal.hedera.com) gives you instant Testnet credentials (account ID, EVM address, private keys) plus a daily faucet. The Dev Playground runs entirely in-browser—no installs needed—so you can create tokens/NFTs, burn/mint, schedule transactions, try KYC flows, and interact with contracts. Every example shows live results and links out to HashScan (Hedera’s Etherscan) to inspect transactions and contracts. There’s an embedded AI assistant and a separate HiveMind GPT trained on Hedera docs, useful to avoid hallucinations while prototyping. For smart contracts, the Contract Builder (Remix-like) scaffolds ERC-20/721, toggles features (mintable/burnable/ownable), compiles, deploys, and verifies on HashScan—all in the browser.
