ETHDam is a Hackathon & Conference that gathered over 500 DeFi and Privacy builders on the 20th and 21st of May 2023 in Amsterdam.

Privacy is normal. Following the arrest of Alexey Pertsev, a Tornado Cash developer in the Netherlands, ETHDam 2023 is determined to counter the chilling effects of the lawsuit and bridge worlds to discuss the future of privacy, encouraging to build on the shoulders of cypherpunk giants.

ETHDam is powered by CryptoCanal, - a blockchain education and events platform growing in Amsterdam, spreading its roots to Rotterdam and Zurich.

[Music] what's my broad opinion on privacy I think privacy should be seen as a human right really first and foremost and it's also about really creating a free Society you know you need to be able to think freely you need to be able to discuss freely with people otherwise it really has a chilling effect and I think if we really want to have a truly free Society we want to be able to have free discussions you know without any sort of you know you know repercussions to our to our words and and I think in this sense it really ties into freedom of speech and this is why I think you know privacy is so important and always has been one of the you know pillars of the cryptocurrency movement and it's not something we should forget privacy is considered the norm you know within the banking system if I have a you know a bank account you know with a mainstream bank it's expected that my neighbor can't see my transactions and that is the case currently with most blockchains that if I do it transaction with my neighbor they'd be able to figure out all the economic activity I've done for potentially years depending on on that work so I think that's where privacy is also really important not just for uh you know Advocates of freedom but also for institutional players you know if if I'm a business um and and I'm paying my suppliers I don't want my competitors to know who my suppliers are so in this countless examples like this where privacy should really be considered a critical Cornerstone for you know cryptocurrency systems and this has been the case from day one and I think a conference like this is is really positioned to kind of highlight that and reinforce that idea so want privacy doesn't mean you have something to hide yes you know cryptocurrency is about freedom and privacy is a invaluable aspect of that freedom
