## Description

In this talk, Chris Yin, co-founder and CEO of Plume, cuts through the hype around tokenization and RWAs to reveal what he calls the "digital assets mirage." He acknowledges the dominant narrative right now with Visa and Mastercard talking about stablecoins, BlackRock pushing tokenization for two years, DTCC planning to tokenize everything, and NASDAQ recently discussing tokenizing all equities. RWA charts are ripping up and to the right with the sector at $30 billion in assets, up 4x since February and growing 30% just last quarter. But when you peel back the onion, the picture changes dramatically. Chris shows individual assets driving the growth: $2.8 billion with only 43 holders, $1.5 billion with 29 holders, $250 million with just 1 holder. One of the biggest assets had 6 monthly transfers last month, down from before. The RWA space looks huge in headlines but is almost entirely contained to a tiny number of actual users, with very few of these assets actually being used in DeFi lending or borrowing today.

Chris argues the answer is understanding the user, not just the asset. He uses stablecoins as the model since they took an American asset (US dollars), packaged and distributed it differently, and reached users globally who otherwise had no access. He extends the analogy through McDonald's international expansion: burgers didn't work in Japan until they moved them into fancy Ginza malls and eventually created the teriyaki burger (Japan is now 70% of international sales), and India required them to shift meals from indoor family cooking to outdoor consumption. Same product, different packaging and delivery for each user community. Chris introduces Plume's approach: focus equally on tokenization and distribution, wrapped in regulation and compliance. He walks through Plume's traction including raising from Haun and Galaxy, then Apollo and Brevan Howard, launching mainnet with $150M in assets, becoming the top network by RWA holder count, securing US transfer agent and Bermuda licenses, and announcing the Ether.fi partnership. Distribution wins include $50M through Grove and Apollo into the Acred fund, $40M through OKX integration, $100M in deposits from the Ether.fi community, and 33,000% APY plays for the degen audience through Pendle. He identifies three primary buckets where stablecoin money actually sits (exchanges, neobanks, and onchain users), each requiring differently designed products.
