In this workshop, Matthew Krak demonstrates how to deploy omnichain fungible tokens (OFTs) using LayerZero in under five minutes. He walks through setting up a project with the LayerZero CLI, configuring Hardhat for multiple networks (Base and Arbitrum), and editing LayerZero config files to define endpoints and pathways. The process includes deploying ERC20-compatible OFT contracts, wiring them for cross-chain communication, and sending tokens between chains.

Krak explains the underlying mechanics: OFTs extend ERC20 with bridge logic for debiting (burning/locking) tokens on the source chain and crediting (minting/unlocking) on the destination, using LayerZero’s push-based messaging and message encoding/decoding. He covers advanced topics like correlating send/receive transactions, using OFT adapters to wrap existing tokens, and executing cross-chain function calls.
