This talk, part of the ETHGlobal Spotlight series, introduces MC Pay, a project focused on enabling seamless payments for Model Context Protocols (MCPs) and AI agents. Luis Freitas explains how current API payment systems are not scalable for AI agents, which lack traditional payment methods like credit cards. MC Pay leverages the X42 protocol (initiated by Coinbase) and HTTP 402 status code to enable per-call payments using stablecoins (e.g., USDC) without subscriptions or API keys. Developers can monetize MCP servers via SDK integration or a user-friendly dashboard, set pricing, and access analytics. MC Pay integrates with Coinbase server wallets for easy onboarding and spending control. The platform supports rapid deployment and experimentation with MCP Build, allowing developers to launch monetized servers quickly. Future plans include zk receipts, dynamic pricing, and expanding as an agent commerce hub.
