Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 12:00 AM

This session, led by Mehak Jethmalani and Nick Mauro, provides a comprehensive overview of PYUSD, PayPal's USD-pegged stablecoin. PYUSD is live on Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Solana, with Stellar integration coming soon. The talk covers PayPal’s motivation for launching a stablecoin: to modernize payments, reduce settlement times, lower fees, and increase financial inclusion, especially for the unbanked. PYUSD is fully backed by USD reserves, regulated by the New York DFS, and issued by Paxos. It is designed for payments, is programmable, multi-chain, and supports 24/7 transactions. Developers can access PYUSD via PayPal, Venmo, and major wallets, with resources and bounties available for hackathon participants. The Q&A addresses KYC, use cases, reserves, and interoperability, emphasizing PYUSD’s open, secure, and compliant infrastructure for decentralized applications and payments innovation. 00:00 Introduction 00:36 PayPal’s Motivation for PYUSD 01:33 Limitations of Traditional Payments 02:42 Financial Inclusion and Blockchain Benefits 03:31 Evolution of Payment Technology 03:56 What Are Stablecoins? 04:48 Next Generation Payments: Features 06:15 From Online to Onchain: PYUSD Overview 07:04 Multi-Chain Support and Developer Resources 07:39 PYUSD Design: Payments Focus and Regulation 08:29 Accessibility, Security, and Compliance 08:59 Stablecoins vs. Traditional Payment Rails 09:59 Hackathon Bounties and Use Cases 10:46 Developer Resources and Support 11:33 Google Cloud Web3 Portal 11:57 Q&A: KYC, Use Cases, and Technical Details 14:22 Hackathon Bounty Tracks 15:21 Multi-Chain and Token Standards 15:47 Reserves and Paxos Role 16:40 Wallet Eligibility and Usage 17:21 Sending PYUSD: PayPal and External Wallets 18:08 On-Ramping and Access Points 19:19 Closing Remarks _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇺🇸 *ETHGlobal New York* This workshop is specifically for ETHGlobal New York, a 3-day hackathon held August 15-17, bringing together the most skilled web3 developers, designers and product builders from all around the globe for a weekend-long adventure to advance the Ethereum ecosystem!
