ZK-ID in the Context of DeFi | European Blockchain Convention 9

Wed, Oct 2, 2024, 12:00 AM

In this keynote, Adam from Aleph Zero introduces ZK-ID (Zero-Knowledge Identity) in the context of layer one with a privacy framework for blockchain. He addresses the misconception that blockchains are inherently private and highlights the risks of transaction history being publicly visible. To enhance privacy, users often resort to centralized exchanges, compromising the decentralized ethos. Adam advocates for replacing centralized exchanges with cryptographic solutions, such as ZK SNARK, which, while effective, can be exploited by hackers for illicit activities. ZK-ID aims to strike a balance by creating an anonymity pool that excludes hackers, preventing misuse of privacy features. The core concept of blockchain ID involves a user proving their identity to a trusted provider, receiving an ID token. ZK-ID takes this a step further, introducing zero-knowledge proofs to ensure that only necessary information is revealed during interactions with decentralized exchanges. This approach safeguards user privacy by allowing transactions from any of their accounts and maintaining transaction origin unidentifiable. Adam acknowledges the initial centralization of the KYC (Know Your Customer) provider but emphasizes its improvement over the current state of blockchain privacy. He also anticipates future iterations involving a decentralized decision-making process for revealing transactions through a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). --------- Speakers: Adam Gągol | Aleph Zero --------- The European Blockchain Convention is the most influential blockchain event in Europe.
