Intro to Chiliz and the Chiliz Chain I James Scicluna

Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 12:00 AM

James Scicluna, Head of Product at Chiliz, introduces Chiliz and the Chiliz Chain, highlighting its evolution since 2018 as a leading blockchain platform for sports and entertainment. Chiliz pioneered fan tokens—fungible ERC20 tokens—enabling fans to engage with top European clubs like PSG and Juventus via the Socios.com app, which boasts 2.5 million users. The Chiliz Chain, a layer-1 blockchain, now empowers developers to build decentralized apps (dApps) for sports, including NFT ticketing, DeFi, and SportsFi. Chiliz encourages innovation through hackathons, offering tracks for sports apps and DeFi solutions, and supports integration of AI. Fan tokens can be traded, staked, and used for rewards like merchandise and VIP experiences. Chiliz aims to expand its DeFi ecosystem, attract more developers, and become the go-to network for sports projects globally, leveraging partnerships and real-world fan engagement. 00:00 Introduction 00:26 Chiliz Background and History 00:52 Launch of Fan Tokens and Club Partnerships 01:25 Socios.com App and Fan Engagement 02:21 User Growth and Expansion 02:45 Launch of Chiliz Chain and Developer Opportunities 03:39 SportsFi, DeFi, and Ecosystem Vision 04:18 Hackathons and Developer Tracks 05:48 DeFi Track and Use Cases 06:37 Encouraging Use of Fan Tokens and AI 08:00 Q&A: Future Plans and DeFi Focus 09:47 Q&A: Fan Token Value and Club Performance 11:06 Q&A: Club Involvement and Monetization 11:30 Q&A: Trading, Rewards, and Club Integrations 13:30 Closing Remarks and Invitation to Connect _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇺🇸 *ETHGlobal New York* This workshop is specifically for ETHGlobal New York, a 3-day hackathon held August 15-17, bringing together the most skilled web3 developers, designers and product builders from all around the globe for a weekend-long adventure to advance the Ethereum ecosystem!
