Ledger Wallet Direct Connectivity I Mathieu Bertin

Sat, May 2, 2026, 12:00 AM

In this workshop, Mathieu Bertin, engineering manager at Ledger, introduces Ledger's direct connectivity solution — the Ledger Button — which allows DApp developers to integrate Ledger hardware wallet connectivity directly into their applications without requiring users to install browser extensions. Built on the Lit web component framework for cross-framework compatibility, it provides a full EIP-1193 provider supporting account fetching, transaction signing, clear signing, transaction simulation checks, and both USB and Bluetooth connectivity. Mathieu also covers Ledger's clear signing initiative, contrasting it with unsafe blind signing by showing how clear signing makes transaction details transparent and human-readable on the device. He does a live demo on 1inch connecting a Nano Gen 5 via Bluetooth to initiate a swap with clear signing. He then introduces the Device Management Kit, a modular set of libraries supporting Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, and Cosmos with transports for USB, BLE, and React Native. The hackathon features two tracks: AI agents interacting with Ledger devices and clear signing integration. 00:00 Introduction and About Ledger 00:43 Hackathon Tracks: AI Agents and Clear Signing 01:36 What Is Blind Signing 02:44 What Is Clear Signing 03:12 Ledger Button: Direct Connectivity Overview 03:39 Built-In Security and Transaction Checks 04:32 USB, BLE, and Bluetooth Support 04:54 Architecture: Device Management Kit and Dependencies 05:24 Lit Web Components and EIP Standards 05:53 Supported Networks and Actions 06:23 Integration Steps and SDK Setup 07:00 Live Demo: Connecting Nano Gen 5 on 1inch 08:53 Device Management Kit Deep Dive 09:43 Signer Kits: Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, Cosmos 10:42 Debugging Tools, Playground, and Emulator 11:14 Developer Portal and Resources 12:00 Q&A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ *ETHGlobal Cannes 2026* This workshop is specifically for ETHGlobal Cannes 2026, a 3-day hackathon held April 3-5 at the Palace of Festivals and Congresses of Cannes, bringing together the most skilled web3 developers, designers and product builders from all around the globe for a weekend-long adventure to advance the Ethereum ecosystem!
