The Ontology Gap | Angelo Min at Pragma Lisbon 2026

Angelo Min, CEO of Lighthouse, describes the “ontology gap” that appears when raw onchain data is mistaken for an understandable picture of an asset. A wallet may show token balances, names, icons, and prices, yet still conceal the chain of vaults, curators, lending markets, collateral, and counterparties behind a position. For asset managers and risk teams, those missing relationships determine what the investment actually is, how it behaves, where risk accumulates, and how quickly liquidity can be accessed. Using a portfolio example, Min shows how an ERC-20 balance can represent a claim on a Morpho vault curated by another organization, which then supplies capital to lending markets backed by separate collateral. Each layer changes the economic exposure. A token label cannot reveal who controls the vault, its exit conditions, pricing inputs, underlying fees, collateral exposure, or the behavior of the underlying strategy. Without a shared model for those relationships, analysts repeatedly reconstruct the same context and may still reach inconsistent conclusions. Min separates the problem into taxonomy, agreeing on what an entity is, and ontology, mapping how protocols, assets, contracts, and service providers relate to one another. Even a shared taxonomy is not enough unless the resulting information can be collected, maintained, and applied to a concrete asset-management or due-diligence task. He argues that a new generation of knowledge-graph products can combine onchain records with structured context, making complex DeFi positions legible. The outcome is better collaboration, more reliable analysis, and infrastructure capable of supporting asset-management decisions. He proposes data systems that answer three connected questions: what an entity is, how it works, and how it should be used for a specific task. Taxonomy supplies consistent categories, ontology maps dependencies and relationships, and applications turn that structure into research, due diligence, portfolio monitoring, and action. Min points to existing crypto data products as partial building blocks, then argues that a new generation should unite taxonomy, ontology, and usable applications for asset managers and agents. 00:00 Introduction and Lighthouse Background 00:32 Onchain Data for Asset Managers 01:04 A Four-Million-Dollar Deposit Story 01:48 Nameless Tokens in Etherscan 02:14 Why Token Labels Are Not Enough 03:04 Interpreting Tokens as Vault Positions 03:47 What DeFi Interfaces Still Hide 04:16 Mapping a Morpho Vault Knowledge Graph 04:43 Risk Lives Between Connected Entities 05:07 XUSD Losses Socialized Across Depositors 05:34 Depositing After a Protocol Collapse 06:06 Turning Onchain Data Into Meaning 06:48 Taxonomy, Ontology, and Actionable Data 07:36 Comparing Two Similar Vaults 07:56 Different Strategies Behind One Label 08:42 Liquidity and Redemption Differences 09:03 The Cost of Rebuilding Context 09:49 Lessons From TradFi Taxonomy 10:31 Why Taxonomy Alone Is Insufficient 11:21 Mapping Financial Relationships 13:10 Existing Crypto Data Products 14:49 A New Generation of Knowledge Graphs 15:14 Lighthouse for Onchain Asset Managers 16:08 Tracking Customer Assets in One App 17:02 Closing the Onchain Ontology Gap _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇵🇹 *Pragma Lisbon 2026* Pragma Lisbon 2026 was held on June 25th at the Carlos Lopes Pavillion in Lisbon, Portugal and was an in-person summit for builders and leaders in the web3 ecosystem.
