Ömer Talip Akalın I A Guide to Building Bapps On Citrea I ETHGlobal Taipei 2025

Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 12:00 AM

Learn how to build Bitcoin applications (Bapps) on Citrea, the first ZK-rollup for Bitcoin, in this ETHGlobal Taipei 2025 workshop with Ömer Talip Akalın, DevRel at Citrea. Discover why Bitcoin needs scaling solutions, how Citrea's EVM-compatible chain enables smart contracts on Bitcoin, and the risks of traditional cross-chain bridges. Ömer explains ZK-proof security, Citrea's trust-minimized bridge architecture, and opportunities for developers—from DeFi and stablecoins to NFTs and privacy apps. Whether you're a Solidity developer or new to Bitcoin programmability, this talk covers hackathon bounties, testnet tools, and Citrea's incubation program for builders. 00:00 – Introduction: Why Build on Bitcoin with Citrea? 01:22 – Bitcoin’s Limitations: Programmability & Scalability 03:31 – Bitcoin Script vs. Solidity: Developer Experience 04:37 – High Fees & Slow Transactions: Bitcoin’s Challenges 05:45 – Why Bitcoin Upgrades Are Hard (Philosophical Barriers) 06:18 – Sidechains & Bridges: Current Solutions & Risks 07:28 – How Cross-Chain Bridges Work (And Get Hacked) 09:06 – Citrea’s Solution: ZK-Rollups for Bitcoin 10:19 – ZK-Proofs Explained: Trustless Bitcoin Bridging 12:02 – Citrea’s EVM Compatibility: Code in Solidity 13:10 – Technical Deep Dive: Citrea’s Sequencer & Prover 14:38 – Citrea’s Bridge Architecture (vs. Multisig Risks) 15:46 – Hackathon Tracks: DeFi & Bitcoin Apps (BAPPs) 16:51 – Vision: Hyperbitcoinization & Bitcoin-Backed Economy 17:55 – Citrea Origins: Incubation for Bitcoin Builders 19:34 – Testnet Launch & Mainnet Roadmap (3 Months) 20:07 – Q&A: Bitcoin-Backed Stablecoins & Hackathon Tips _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇹🇼 *ETHGlobal Taipei* This workshop is specifically for ETHGlobal Taipei, a 3-day hackathon held April 4-6 2025, that brought together the most skilled web3 developers, designers and product builders from all around the globe for a weekend-long adventure to advance the Ethereum ecosystem! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ✅ *Follow Citrea* X: https://x.com/citrea_xyz ✅ *Follow ETHGlobal* X: https://x.com/ETHGlobal Warpcast: https://warpcast.com/ethglobal Website: https://ethglobal.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ETHGlobal _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _Are you interested in Ethereum development and entrepreneurship?_ 👉 Sign up for the next ETHGlobal event: https://ethglobal.com/events 🎁 Get exclusive access and perks with ETHGlobal Plus! https://ethglobal.com/plus 📣 Want us to throw an event in your city?
