katana + agglayer workshop I Brian Seong

Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 12:00 AM

Brian Seong from Polygon presents a workshop on building DeFi applications on Katana, a DeFi-focused Layer 2 blockchain incubated by Polygon. Katana is designed from the ground up for DeFi, offering deep liquidity, high yields, and seamless integration with protocols like SushiSwap, Morpho, and AUSD. Developers benefit from comprehensive resources, including Special K (a starter kit with pre-deployed DeFi primitives), Superdocs, AI assistant, and multiple testnets (Katana, Bokuto, Tatara). The workshop covers developer tools, contract directories, vault bridge for yield-generating cross-chain transfers, and integration with Chainlink, LayerZero, and more. Brian emphasizes community support, hackathon participation, and bounties for dev tools, DeFi protocols, cross-chain solutions, and open innovation. The hands-on demo walks through using Special K to set up a local environment, build, test, and deploy smart contracts and frontends, streamlining the DeFi development process on Katana. 00:00 Introduction 00:33 What is Katana? 01:37 Katana Documentation & Tools Overview 03:01 Superdocs & Hacker Springboard 04:15 Katana Testnets Explained 05:14 Testnet Tokens & Developer Support 06:00 Getting Started for Hackers 07:21 Developer Community & Ecosystem Explorer 07:53 Katana DeFi Primitives & Integrations 09:00 Developer Ideas & What to Build 10:17 AI x Crypto Use Cases 11:27 Cross-chain & Tooling Opportunities 12:05 Hackathon Tracks & Bounties 14:26 Katana Mission Recap 15:02 Special K Starter Kit Overview 16:33 Special K Project Structure 18:40 Special K Scripts & Commands 19:33 Hands-on: Setting Up Local Environment 21:47 Connecting MetaMask & Deploying DApps 22:53 Building, Testing, and Deploying Contracts 23:23 Running the Frontend Demo 24:19 Developer Workflow Recap & Conclusion _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇺🇸 *ETHGlobal New York* This workshop is specifically for ETHGlobal New York, a 3-day hackathon held August 15-17, bringing together the most skilled web3 developers, designers and product builders from all around the globe for a weekend-long adventure to advance the Ethereum ecosystem!
