Panel I Polygon & Ethereum With Sandeep Nailwal, Jordi Baylina, Mihailo Bjelic | | Pragma Paris 2023
Mon, Oct 2, 2023, 12:00 AM
In this powerhouse panel at Pragma Paris 2023, Polygon co-founders Sandeep Nailwal, Jordi Baylina, and Mihailo Bjelic dive deep into the technical evolution, vision, and future of Polygon and its alignment with Ethereum. Explore how Polygon is scaling Ethereum through zkEVM, Polygon 2.0, and a unified multi-chain future built on ZK proofs. Jordi recounts the origin story of zero knowledge in Ethereum scaling, Mihailo outlines the architecture of Polygon 2.0, and Sandeep shares insights on bringing Web3 to a billion users. Learn about the POL token, interoperability layers, recursive ZK proofs, and how Polygon is building a trustless, Ethereum-secured value layer for the internet. Whether you're a developer, founder, or protocol builder, this session is packed with cutting-edge insights on the tech, strategy, and culture powering one of Ethereum’s most important scaling ecosystems. 00:00 Introduction to Polygon’s co-founders 00:47 Jordi on Ethereum’s early scalability challenges 03:01 Discovery of ZK and starting with Plasma 04:02 Building Circom and snark.js for early ZK projects 06:14 From Identity to zkRollups and Hermes 1.0 07:53 Early doubts about zkEVM feasibility 09:34 Breakthrough with polynomial commitments 11:15 Collaboration between Polygon zk teams 13:29 Launching Polygon zkEVM into production 13:52 Polygon 2.0: A unified ZK protocol stack 15:00 Four-layer architecture overview 17:00 DSL and building zkVMs with Plonky2 & Pill 18:37 Polygon PoS transition to L2 explained 20:43 Polygon vs OP Stack: Collaborative vision 23:01 Supernets, interoperability, and recursive proofs 24:58 Live cross-chain communication with ZK bridges 26:32 Culture of building and learning through hackathons 27:40 Global secure ZK-based cross-chain messaging 29:19 POL token: Hyper-productive protocol asset 31:00 Multi-role validator model with POL 33:12 What makes Polygon BD team successful 35:19 Mission-driven culture and 5149 partnership ethos 37:44 The secret to platform success 38:20 Internal disagreements and healthy debate 41:03 Shared values, mutual respect, and collaboration 42:33 Celebrating being proven wrong _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇫🇷 *Pragma Paris* Pragma Paris took place at the Pavillion Vendome in Paris on July 20, 2023, and was an in-person summit for builders and leaders in the web3 ecosystem. Pragma is a one-stage conference with founders-only on stage, bringing together a small group of curated attendees and speakers to discuss the future of web3 and reflect on the past. Ever since we first introduced our new event series Pragma in Tokyo of the spring of 2023, we have been fostering a curated, global community of individuals who deeply care about web3. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ✅ *Follow Kartik Talwar* X: https://x.com/therealkartik Warpcast: https://warpcast.com/kartik ✅ *Follow ETHGlobal* X: https://x.com/ETHGlobal Warpcast: https://warpcast.com/ethglobal Website: https://ethglobal.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ETHGlobal _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _Are you interested in Ethereum development and entrepreneurship?_ 👉 Sign up for the next ETHGlobal event: https://ethglobal.com/events 🎁 Get exclusive access and perks with ETHGlobal Plus! https://ethglobal.com/plus 📣 Want us to throw an event in your city? Speakers
Sandeep Nailwal is one of the founders of the Polygon network and currently serves as the executive chairman of Polygon Labs, an international software development company that builds blockchain scaling infrastructure. In this capacity, his role along with other co-founders is to steward the long-term sustainability growth of the Polygon protocol and ecosystem, and oversee the strategic priorities of Polygon Labs, where he works closely with Marc Boiron, CEO of Polygon Labs
Jordi is Co-Founder of Polygon. He led the development and implementation of Polygon zkEVM, a leading zk-rollup. As one of the most widely recognized Ethereum developers, he has made several high-impact contributions to the Ethereum community, including CIRCOM and PIL, free and open-source projects demonstrating his commitment to Web3 values. He has a long history in the Ethereum community, including co-founding the WhiteHat Group to save funds during The DAO hack early in the network’s history.
