In this fireside chat from Pragma Denver 2024, Henry Stern, founder of Privy, joins Kartik Talwar of ETHGlobal to discuss how Privy is powering the next generation of consumer crypto apps with embedded wallets, seamless onboarding, and privacy-conscious user management. Henry shares how Privy helps developers integrate self-custodial wallets and user identity into apps effortlessly — whether users come via email, social login, or traditional wallets like MetaMask. Learn how Privy enables hybrid apps that bridge onchain and offchain data, and why simplifying UX is critical for Web3 mass adoption. They also explore real-world examples from Blackbird, Zora, Courtyard, and POAP, highlight how global wallets can unlock interoperability across apps, and dive into future roadmap items including mobile SDKs, gasless transactions, and onboarding at scale. 00:00 Intro to Privy and user-friendly wallets 00:53 How Privy started at Protocol Labs 02:34 From consensus to user-facing crypto apps 03:36 The first version of Privy and offchain data 04:36 How onboarding shaped the current product 05:05 What are embedded wallets? 06:36 Balancing UX, decentralization, and custody 07:43 Self-custody vs decentralization tradeoffs 09:11 Developer UX and embedded wallet limitations 10:06 What is consumer crypto? 11:03 Privy’s developer focus across user types 12:25 Examples: Blackbird, Hyperliquid, Zora, Courtyard 14:21 Measuring app success and transaction funnel 15:21 Introducing global embedded wallets 16:21 Self-custody and interoperability in practice 17:55 Onchain vs offchain asset context 18:52 Starting with onchain; future of data portability 19:21 Mobile SDKs and PWAs in crypto UX 20:26 Why mobile crypto matters for growth 21:33 What’s next: global wallets, gas sponsorship, on-ramps 22:55 Closing remarks and future of wallets with Privy _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇺🇸 *Pragma Denver* Pragma Denver 2024 took place at The Arch in Denver on February 28, 2024, and was an in-person summit for builders and leaders in the web3 ecosystem.
