Join Sandeep Nailwal, Rene Reinsberg, Alex Gluchowski & Steven Goldfeder I Pragma Denver 2024
Wed, Oct 2, 2024, 12:00 AM
Explore the future of Ethereum scaling in this must-watch panel from Pragma Denver 2024. ETHGlobal’s Kartik Talwar moderates a powerful conversation with leaders from Polygon Labs (Sandeep Nailwal), Celo (Rene Reinsberg), Matter Labs / zkSync (Alex Gluchowski), and Offchain Labs / Arbitrum (Steven Goldfeder). Topics include rollup architecture, ZK vs. optimistic proofs, chain aggregation vs. modularity, L2 vs. L3 infrastructure, and the race to build a seamless, trustless internet. Learn how the major Ethereum ecosystems are converging on scalability, composability, and decentralization—and what the road to a unified onchain economy really looks like. 00:00 Intro by Kartik Talwar 01:06 Defining aggregation vs modular blockchain scaling 03:07 Sandeep on Polygon’s Aggregated ZK Vision 05:14 Rene on Celo’s L1 to L2 transition 08:59 Evaluating user needs across L2 ecosystems 09:56 Steven on Arbitrum’s custom clusters and Orbit 14:23 Alex introduces zkSync’s hyperchain network 16:03 Why ZK proofs are key to interoperability 19:26 Steven challenges ZK assumptions with Ethereum finality 23:02 Alex’s defense: sovereignty and ZK aggregation 25:13 Sandeep on UX and cost of proving 28:14 Optimistic vs ZK rollup cost trade-offs 29:46 Rene on Ethereum’s strength from diversity 32:08 Steven: why optimistic rollups work today 34:20 Toward shared trustless value across ecosystems 35:38 Closing thoughts and panel wrap-up _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇺🇸 *Pragma Denver* Pragma Denver 2024 took place at The Arch in Denver on February 28, 2024, and was an in-person summit for builders and leaders in the web3 ecosystem. Pragma is a one-stage conference with founders-only on stage, bringing together a small group of curated attendees and speakers to discuss the future of web3 and reflect on the past. Speakers
Steven Goldfeder is the Co-Founder and CEO of Offchain Labs, the original contributor to Arbitrum - the market-leading L2 scaling solution on Ethereum. With a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Princeton University, Steven's expertise spans blockchain technology and cryptography. Prior to Offchain Labs, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell Tech and held internships at Microsoft Research and Google.
Sandeep Nailwal is one of the founders of the Polygon network and currently serves as the executive chairman of Polygon Labs, an international software development company that builds blockchain scaling infrastructure. In this capacity, his role along with other co-founders is to steward the long-term sustainability growth of the Polygon protocol and ecosystem, and oversee the strategic priorities of Polygon Labs, where he works closely with Marc Boiron, CEO of Polygon Labs
Alex is a software architect with over 15 years experience in engineering and startups. He is the co-inventor of zkSync and currently serves as the co-founder and CEO of Matter Labs. At Matter Labs, he leads a talented team focused on addressing blockchain scalability challenges using zero-knowledge proofs. Alex's passion lies in using technology to advance personal freedom, self-ownership, and decentralization.
Rene Reinsberg is a co-founder of Celo and currently President of the Celo Foundation. Celo's emerging Ethereum Layer 2 is at the center of an ecosystem of technologies, organizations, and individuals that all share a mission of building a regenerative financial system that creates the conditions for prosperity for everyone. Previously, he co-founded Locu (acquired by GoDaddy). Rene started his career in global capital markets at Morgan Stanley and also worked at McKinsey, the World Bank, Techn
