Introduction to Speedrun Ethereum Challenges Philip Krause

Thu, Oct 2, 2025, 12:00 AM

Philip Krause from BuildGuild introduces "Speedrun Ethereum," a gamified set of Ethereum development challenges designed to onboard developers into blockchain, smart contracts, and DeFi concepts. The challenges progress from beginner tasks like creating NFTs and staking apps to advanced topics such as building decentralized exchanges (DEX), overcollateralized lending protocols, prediction markets, and smart contract security. Krause explains the mechanics of overcollateralized lending (e.g., Aave), focusing on collateral, borrowing, liquidation, interest rates, price oracles, and flash loans. He highlights the importance of maintaining healthy collateral ratios and the risks of oracle manipulation and collateral volatility. The session then covers prediction markets (e.g., Polymarket), discussing binary outcomes, liquidity provision, automated market makers, and the critical role of oracles in resolving real-world events. Krause emphasizes the educational value of Speedrun Ethereum for learning core Web3, DeFi, and smart contract principles, encouraging participation to deepen understanding of blockchain development. 00:00 Introduction 00:44 Overview of Speedrun Ethereum Challenges 01:33 Challenge Examples: NFTs, Staking, Token Swaps, DEX 02:22 Advanced Challenges: Lending, Prediction Markets, Security 03:13 Overcollateralized Lending Explained 06:17 Lending, Borrowing, and Liquidation Mechanics 10:12 Key Components of Lending Protocols 13:05 Flash Loans and On-chain Innovations 14:31 Risks in Lending Protocols 15:29 Why Learn Overcollateralized Lending 16:27 Introduction to Prediction Markets 17:41 Binary Prediction Markets and Resolution 20:07 Building Blocks of Prediction Markets 23:44 Challenges and Human Factors in Prediction Markets 24:59 AI Agents and Future of Forecasting 25:24 Closing Thoughts and Q&A _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 🇫🇷 *ETHGlobal Cannes* This workshop is specifically for ETHGlobal Cannes, a 3-day hackathon held July 4-6, bringing together the most skilled web3 developers, designers and product builders from all around the globe for a weekend-long adventure to advance the Ethereum ecosystem!
