Collective Intelligence vs. Superintelligence? Institutional Design for Resilience in the AI Age: Chris Wray and Seth Frey explored how intentional community living has shaped their views on governance, process, and the role of AI. Challenging the dominance of voting as the default unit of democracy, they proposed a shift toward intentional gatherings and deliberative practices. The conversation unpacked tensions between outcome-driven and process-oriented design, questioned adversarial models of system robustness, and reflected on how AI might support—not replace—human-centered processes like facilitation, conflict resolution, and meaning-making in collective decision-making. Speakers: Chris Wray (Future Human Systems Research), Seth Frey (University of California, Davis) This session was part of the 12th edition of Funding the Commons, held March 15–16, 2025, at the Internet Archive in San Francisco.
